Stronglifts.com via www.neilmct.com October 1st, 2008 at 17:35

I have browsed this site a few times and receive their emails every so often with a few nice bits of info - check this recent article I found in my inbox. . . Source- stronglifts newsletter The videos are class - even if you are not a big power lifting fan the response from the spotters and anyone else close by just shows how important it is too have a good audience to help with big lifts......

Dead lift article via www.neilmct.com August 10th, 2008 at 23:38

Thanks to the older bro for sending this my way. A great article on pin pointing the flaws in your dead lift. You might struggle getting it past the knees or with the lock out at the top. This could shed some light on how to fix it....

Quick update for everyone keen to know how Rach is getting on. A few competitions on the horizon at the end of this month and a comp in Sept should see her with a few more personal bests under the belt. Today she was a bit sore but had a go at a 90kg squat....

Jean Pierre Fux ! via www.neilmct.com November 18th, 2007 at 19:12

Wow - It's been ages since I've seen this picture. It's Jean Pierre Fux going tits up with almost 700 pounds on his back. What can we learn from JP ?1 / Use safety bars when attempting to lift heavy weights. In fact, use them all the time just in case.2 / The Achilles tendon is not meant to come into contact with the Anus.3 / Knee wraps and a belt won't help you avoid death if this bar lands on your neck. Refer to first point.4 / Always wear gloves when you squat.Source...

Getting Strength Back via www.neilmct.com October 27th, 2007 at 16:16

I feel strong again. I'm up to 90kg and have seen my lifts return, almost to where they were at the start of the year before I started cutting up. I recently benched 150kg and after this 180 kg squat I did a 220kg dead lift without straps and I had only started dead lifting again on Tuesday.Still plan to keep the bodyweight up until after crimbo and go for a cut next year to get the body fat down a touch. When I'm big I want to be leaner and when I'm lean I want to be bigger - never fecking happy!...

Weaknesses ! via www.neilmct.com August 12th, 2007 at 11:05

Last year I really felt my legs and back were my worst body parts. I could squat and dead lift pretty good weights but the size just wasn't going on there as I would like. Check these tips on improving everything and how to give your physique the balanced look. Enjoy.Vary rep ranges, frequency and volume. Muscles are both fast and slow twitch in make up. Having power days and days of higher reps can help stimulate growth - this increased frequency can also help.Unilateral work. My legs have really responded to single leg movements such as the split squat variations. Try having your feet up on a bench and work with barbells and dumbbells.Small arms ? Work the triceps. They make up a greater percentage of the arm. You also need to bring up your shoulder girdle if you want guns and not pea...

Rachael Deadlifting after Squat Workout via www.neilmct.com August 6th, 2007 at 19:00

After posting the squat videos people were saying they would like to see a good deadlift video, and in that video show more than just one angle. As Rachael is better looking than me I asked her to demonstrate this awesome exercise. You can leg press all the weights and be king of the tricep machine but if you cant squat and deadlift some decent weights you shouldnt even be reading this blog - you...

Neil - front squats via www.neilmct.com July 23rd, 2007 at 18:09

After uploading the last two videos I got a few emails from guys wanting to see my front squat and asking why I do them. Below is a deep front squat with 130kg. Front squatting loads the body differently and requires the abs to do more work than the lower back. I love the feeling you get doing these but man they are tough. This is 140kg and believe me its fecking heavy. I feel the bar digging into my collar bones that bit more on the front squats since I've lost weight whereas before I never even noticed. As you can see in the video, the great thing with squatting deep and not being able to get it, is the fact that you never get hurt due to the position of the safety bars. Two grip styles for front squats...

Squat depth via www.neilmct.com July 21st, 2007 at 23:05

This is me after I'd already done 5 sets of front squats and had then moved on to back squats. For back squats I went up 160kg and then down again to 100kg. In this video I'm using 140kg. On the third rep you might notice that hit the safety bars which threw my balance a bit. Also a video of David warming up on the front squat - He is taller than me but still shoots pretty...

Smith Machine Squat ! via www.neilmct.com June 22nd, 2007 at 13:50

Squatting with the Smith Machine is never a great idea. If you have access to a free bar then use a free bar. I've seen similar things happen in my gym, although as yet, it's never been as bad as this guys missed attempt.Techniques such as 'one rep maxes', 'negatives' and 'partial reps' are all pretty good for testing and improving strength but best avoided if you are an...

Neil’s wheels via www.neilmct.com June 7th, 2007 at 18:44

I was taking a bit of abuse because I only have upper body pics on the blog so I took a few quick leg snaps. I have recently changed my leg routine again - I flick between two leg days - one is heavy day with the biggies such as front squats and dead lifts whereas the second day focuses on a higher rep range and I throw in some unilateral stuff and super sets. I love one rep max / power lifting rep ranges but I find all body parts respond well to higher frequency and various rep...

Another Great T Shirt ! via www.neilmct.com April 3rd, 2007 at 23:18

Gym newbies may not get the joke here, but many experienced lifters will remember the day they went to do squats and some numptie was using the rack for bicep curls.Curls can be done anywhere - the same cannot be said for squats ! Zercher squat via www.neilmct.com September 29th, 2006 at 21:18

image One of my favourite exercises of late.Front squats with a bar held across the collarbones can feel like its choking whereas the Zercher squat hits me in the quads and abs - Try these and it will feel like you are a strongman competitior during the 'stones' event.Great...
